The Second Edition of this book was probably the greatest computer reference tome since PC Magazine's DOS Power Tools.
This edition is smoother, more coherent and with the addition of Shelley Powers, more accessible.
You've got to get a copy of Unix Power Tools 3rd edition, it's every sick and twisted thing you ever wanted to know about Unix/Linux.

I don't usually wax poetic about a browser, but since I hired Firefox and fired Opera, (after firing IE LONG ago) I have never been happier. Spyware is gone, virii are nearly non-existent and it gives shoulder massages. Well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad...
Check out this great article about Supercharging Firefox
I'm horrified and amazed when I see people still using Internet Exploder. Why, the tabbed browsing alone would cause me to use Firefox/Opera, and here's a nice little interview with Nigel McFarlane about Clearing Internet Explorer barriers to using Firefox

I couldn't agree more with Steven on this one, the report he's ranting on about; Windows Patching: Cheaper than Open Source? is a complete farce and fantasy. Obviously no one had slept for days or taken the right medication...
So move over WinTel and hello LinTel, 'cause now Intel Counsels Desktop Linux Movement is the way to go.
How DO these people sleep at night, reporting crap like this? Some "business partner" of M$ did a study that Windows (is) cheaper to patch than OSS???

I don't know about you, but I'm seeing more and more emphasis on clustering, and it's all about getting the most bank for the buck, which is why I appreciated this great article from LinuxMag about Building a Very Low Cost Cluster.
It's not necessarily about the COST, it's about not being locked in to any one vendor, which is really expensive. So it's about cost anyway?

Ok, so the study in question shows that MS used much older versions of Apache, Linux and the Kernel to test against, so that's strike number one, and even then they show only marginal improvements over the crusty, fusty old OSS software. Nice job of Anti-Spin on CXOLinux's part.
